When you think of Thanksgiving what comes to mind? Probably spending time with family and eating more food than imaginable. Well there is another Thanksgiving tradition that can also be fun (and way more healthy). I'm referring to the Turkey Trot tradition. Most every town has one while some are small and local well others have thousands of participants (Run to Feed The Hungry in Sacremento, CA had over 29,000 last year!). There's probably a race in your hometown that you didn't even know about. So why run in one of these? Well here are some reasons. You get to pre-burn those calories. The first reason you should run is probably the most obvious. Thanksgiving dinners can have over 2,000 calories just in one sitting. If you exercise ahead of time, you might feel less guilty about the holiday indulgence. It's a great family tradition Running usually brings families together, and it just seems like such a fun way to get everyone together for a common goal. You can dress up Turkey Trots usually encourage dressing up. You won't feel out of place with your turkey hat or full on costume here. Turkey Trots are usually more fun The vibe of these races is usually more laid back and fun since you will have all types of runners participating. Sign up and find out for yourself! There's something for everyone
Many of these races can have more than just a 5k. Mine has a 10 miler, while some have half marathons, one mile races, and many have a kid's run. So, there's really something for the entire family.
