Running: It's actually more expensive than therapy
Saturday 01/12/19 was the Port Orange Livestrong at the YMCA 5k. I always plan for this race since it's close to home and for a great cause. The early morning views along the river make it a great reason to wake up early on a Saturday. Fun fact: the previous years' course had a double bridge route but the construction of that bridge meant this we could enjoy a pleasant and flat out and back along the river. I'm all for not having to run over the bridge especially when I'm not in the best shape haha.
Mile 1 6:30
Packet pickup and everything went smoothly and we lined up and were off right on time. My plan for this race was to just take it slowish and have fun. My speed work has been lacking in the off-season (rightfully so) and I really felt it here. I felt that I could not run much faster and felt sluggish from the start. My best races are when I run a fast first mile and this clearly was not one of those times.
Mile 2 6:40
Mile two was my worst mile. I started to feel better after the turnaround because the wind changed I think. I wasn't running fast at this point, but I felt I was able to keep up with the pace I had set so my endurance is getting better.
Mile 3 6:35
My last mile was actually not as bad as my second which makes me happy. I feel like at this point I am able to keep up my pace even if it's not a fast one or what I would like.
Mile .10 6:12
I sprinted but didn't go all out as you can see. Overall I am happy with this race because not all races are goal races and I'm happy that my not so great ones are better than my last year's great ones. I'm excited to start training my for 50k now!
