Running: It's actually more expensive than therapy
Sunday 2/4/18 was the Daytona Beach Half Marathon and Lap the Track 5k at the Daytona Beach Speedway. I just think it's so cool to be able to run on the speedway. The 5k started at 10:30 am because some racers participated in the Speedway Challenge of running both the half marathon and 5k (I was not one of them). I'm not a morning person so this was an ideal time for me. I thought this would be a good race because I had such a good week of training.
I intended to run a really fast first mile (and I thought I did till I saw my time) but that didn't happen and I honestly don't know why. I I just think it was an off day and I have no idea why. The first turn of the speedway was into heavy wind then it settled down.
We can around 2.5 miles on the speedway then the last part in this walkway area outside the speedway. It's normally a nice break, but this day it seemed so difficult because of the heavy wind. I was so tired at this point I slowed down so much and even got passed at this point. This was one of the worst last miles I've ever had. I can only learn from this race. Someday you just are off and have no idea why.
This race always has great shirts and finisher medals for both races. I really appreciate when races offer finisher medals to 5k racers when there is a larger race going on as well. I may have been pretty disappointed with my time, but I know I will improve it with some hard training. Things will get better with hard work. Okay enough of that here's the results.
